The Boys Cross Country won their first league competition of the season with a 20-43 victory over La Habra High School. The boys place 2nd through 8th with senior Cyrus Burton leading the way in a new personal best of 16:52 for 3 miles. Race winner John Gonzalez held off a late sprint from Burton to win in 16:51. Matthew Abernathy finished 3rd overall (16:55), newcomer sophomore Nathan Limon finished 4th (17:08), Nathan Smith finished 5th (18:18), Troy Fernandez 6th (18:32), Max Maggio 7th (18:44), and Daniel Fausto finished 8th (18:50)
All seven set new lifetime bests for 3 miles with Burton and Abernathy breaking the 17:00 barrier for the first time. Nathan Limon continued to impress in his debut race, confirming that he will be an immediate factor as the team progresses. Nathan Smith dropped 7 seconds off his lifetime best, sophomore Troy Fernandez dropped 47 seconds, and Daniel Fausto shaved 5 seconds off.
This was the boys first win over a league opponent since September 2016. The boys will race again next Wednesday at Buena Park.
